Seven Energy Begins Supply of Gas to Calabar NIPP

April 30, 2015

Gas supply to facilitate addition of 560MW of additional generation capacity into the grid

untitled

Seven Energy International Limited (“Seven Energy”), the indigenous Nigerian integrated gas Company has commenced the supply of gas to the 560 MW Calabar National Integrated Power Project (“NIPP”). The commercial delivery of gas to Calabar NIPP commenced in March 2015, and is being executed through Accugas, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Seven Energy. When operating at full capacity Calabar NIPP will increase national power generation by over 10%.
Gas is being supplied to the power plant from Seven Energy’s Uquo Gas Processing Facility in Akwa Ibom State through the Seven Energy pipeline network. The gas supply will enable the power plant to complete commissioning and start delivering electricity into the national grid.
Commenting on the achievement, Phillip Ihenacho, Chief Executive Officer, Seven Energy, said; “Delivering a cost effective and reliable gas supply is critical to providing sustainable power supply into the national grid to meet the government’s reform objectives and to facilitate industrial development. I am delighted that our ability to deliver an indigenous gas solution, from end to end is now being recognised by a broad range of industrial and power sector customers. Not only will the gas we supply drive enhanced power generation, but when combined with improvements in transmission and distribution it will also facilitate industrial and commercial developments which will have a far reaching impact throughout the community, stimulating industry and generating employment as a result.”
Steve Tierney, Managing Director, Accugas said “The Calabar NIPP is a major power plant in Calabar and a further endorsement of the quality and reliability of our services. Our strong capability across the region with ownership of gas reserves and pipeline infrastructure have enabled us to commercialise our gas assets, delivering a solution that the market has been demanding for many years. We are ready and look forward to adding more customers to our network across the South East of Nigeria, bringing affordable and reliable gas to a wider audience.”
Seven Energy has continued to champion an industrial gas revolution through the development and production of natural gas, and, critically, its commercialisation through investment in processing and distribution infrastructure, where the Company has invested over $1 billion in the south east region of the Niger Delta in the last 5 years.
With significant capacity built into its distribution infrastructure, the Company is capable of providing a long-term supply of gas to additional off takers for power generation and for local industry.
Since the commissioning of the Uquo Gas Processing Facility in 2014, Seven Energy has begun the supply of gas to other off takers such as the Ibom Power Company, Notore Chemical Industries Limited and the United Cement Company of Nigeria, also in Calabar.

Ten men jailed in Pakistan over Malala attack

April 30, 2015

Convicts sentenced to 25 years in jail for targeted attack on Nobel peace prize laureate when she was a student in 2012.

Islamabad, Pakistan - Ten men have been convicted and sentenced to life in prison by a Pakistani anti-terrorism court in connection with an attack on Nobel peace prize laureate Malala Yousafzai, court officials have told Al Jazeera.
Yousafzai was shot and critically wounded in a targeted attack on her life on October 9, 2012. Two schoolmates were also wounded.
On Thursday, Amin Kundi, a judge at the anti-terrorism court in Yousafzai's native Mingora, sentenced the 10 men to life imprisonment for their involvement in the attack, for which the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) had claimed responsibility.
Life imprisonment in Pakistan is a period of 25 years.
The court named the convicted men as Bilal, Shaukat, Salman, Zafar Iqbal, Israr-ul-Rehman, Zafar Ali, Irfan, Izharullah, Adnan and Ikram.
They are said to be from various parts of the Swat Valley, and to belong to the TTP.
Taliban chief's orders
Last September, the Pakistani military said it had arrested the men, and that they had received their orders directly from Mullah Fazlullah, the chief of the TTP. It said that it had also recovered the weapons used in the attack from the now convicted men.
The military said the first man to be arrested was Israr-ur-Rehman, who was one of the two men who fired the shots on Yousafzai, as well as her classmates Kainat Riaz and Shazia Ramzan. Rehman then gave up the identities of the others involved in the plot, according to the military.
Izharullah was named by authorities as the second gunman in the shootings. Zafar Iqbal was named by the military as the leader of the TTP cell that carried out the attack.
Of the three wounded girls, Yousafzai suffered the most serious injuries. She was rushed first to a Pakistani military hospital and then to the UK for further treatment.
She has since made a full recovery, launching the Malala Fund, a global NGO, which invests in education projects around the globe.
She was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in December 2014, alongside Indian activist Kailash Satyarthi, but remains unable to return home, due to continuing threats against her life.

Dont Sweat It Guys!!! Checkout The 12 Secrets You Should Know About Girls

Thursday, April 30, 2015

girls-whispering-secrets-leaving-man-out-men-white-background-31240584

If I ever have a son, I hope I’ll be able to create an environment where he feels comfortable asking me for advice — especially when it comes to relationships.

When the time comes for him to start chasing girls, I’d like to think he’d come to me whenever he needs a little motherly wisdom.

But, even if he’s too embarrassed to ask me directly, maybe he’ll find this list and be able to spare himself the shame of asking Mommy for help with the ladies:

1. Girls are confusing.

Sometimes, girls don’t know what they want. We often get these grandiose ideals stuck in our heads.
Expectations that are just shy of a Cinderella story will sometimes make you feel like you can never win.

If your taste is anything like your father’s, you’ll probably find yourself going after a girl who is frustratingly indecisive.

You will need to learn patience because a girl like that won’t know what she wants 100 percent of the time, just as you will at times find yourself helplessly confused.

2. We need frequent reminders you care.
Please don’t neglect the power of a little reassurance and a few simple words.

Yes, actions stand far more powerful than any string of syllables, but be someone whose words are meaningful and able to be trusted.
Being able to voice your emotions counts as an action, too.

3. She might seem crazy, and maybe she is, but it’s probably because she cares.

Sometimes, you have to cut the girl a break. “Clingy,” “crazy” and “caring” are interchangeable adjectives used far too often in relationships.

The things she says may seem dramatic, but just like Big Sean says in “Beware,”“Girls only say ‘hate you’ to the guys they love.”

Don’t be so quick to dismiss her with the “crazy” label. Meeting a girl who doesn’t care enough will make you appreciate the one who was always there.

4. Some girls are manipulative — stay away from those ones.

It’s almost inevitable you will meet a girl who just wants to use you.

She’ll be the snake wrapped around the shiny red apple, egging you to come closer, just so she can bite and slither away laughing.

This is the girl who never liked you in the first place.

This is the girl who realized your worth only after you wised up and forgot her.

This is the girl who doesn’t like herself enough to act with any self-respect or grace.

She will paint herself to look better than she is, but when you dig deeper, you’ll see she’s just hollow.
You may have to get bitten a few times before you can spot these types on your own.

5. Go after the girl who keeps you pulled in.

Don’t waste your youth on someone who bores you, or makes you feel less than full. When you want something more than a good time, go for the girl who always keeps you running forward.
The girl who’s always a little mysterious, even when it seems you know everything about her. You’ll know you found this girl by a feeling; there won’t be a concrete sign.

6. Be honest, and she’ll never be able to say you were an assh*le.

There will be times when your flings or relationships will reach their limits. They will come to dead ends and you will want to cut them off and move on.

Be honest; be the guy who was straightforward about his intentions and you’ll never be the assh*le she tried to make you out to be to her friends.

7. If you wanna be her lover, you gotta get with her friends (thanks, Spice Girls).

Just as the opinions of your friends will matter, so will those of her inner circle. Girls want to show off their relationships.
They want to take pictures and sit on your lap and brag about you to their friends.

You will be a constantly reoccurring subject when she’s with her girls. If keeping this girl around is of extreme importance to you, try your best not to cause any animosity between you and the other people with whom she splits her free time.

8. If I don’t like her, that’s a problem.

You can date whomever you want — I won’t be that mom. But, if things between you and a girl progress into something serious and I don’t like her, it won’t be for some petty, ridiculous reason.
It’ll be because I know you and raised you the best I could. It’ll be because I see something wrong that you may be blind to.
Parents know more about you than you think; I, myself, have only recently come to terms with this.

9. If you love her, but your friends don’t, question your friends first.

I’ve witnessed too many dickhead guys ruin their best friend’s relationships out of jealousy to allow this to ever happen to you.

Any friend who takes an immediate opposition to a relationship that makes you happy is only acting out of selfishness. Do not let a situation like this rip you away from someone you really want.

10. Being heartbroken will suck, but it happens to everyone.

Everyone will experience love loss. When you experience it, it will feel like something only you are going through, like you are the most tortured guy on earth.

But, you’ll listen to some old-school Drake and drive around repressing your man tears and get too drunk with your buddies and then time will inevitably heal what was broken. You’ll be okay.

11. Have your fun while you can.
Don’t make the mistake of thinking anyone is allowed to tie you down or hold you back. In high school, you’re still a baby.

You will feel grown up, but college will soon change that view.
In college, you will still be so, so young. There will be no need to settle down with one girl if you don’t want to.

Take your time and do what you want. No friend or girl has any right to pressure you into anything.

Your 20s will be your time and you should live it up before real life smacks you in the face. I’m giving you permission 20-some years in advance. Just use condoms for God’s sake — that’s all I ask.

12. When you find the one, make her believe she’s the best thing you’ve ever had.

When you’ve finally found the girl who makes you happy most of the time, makes you better, makes you think and makes you understand the lyrics in songs on a personal level, make sure you give back all that she gives you.

If she’s the best thing you’ve ever had, do and say everything you can to ensure she believes it.

You’ll learn love is what drives mostly everything in life, as corny and clichĂ©d as it sounds, and taking extra care of the things we love is the master key to happiness.

12 Unmistakable Signs That He’s “The One”

Thursday, April 30, 2015

MrRight

1. Never underestimate the power of humor to bring two people together. If he makes you laugh, that ability will come in handy when you eventually hit rough spots in life.

2.
A thoughtful man lets you know how much he cares by the little things he does for you. He listens to the little hints you drop or dreams you share and then he strives to make them a reality.
Whether it’s picking up the ice cream you’re craving or surprising you with the trip to Paris you’ve always dreamed of. He listens and takes action to make sure you feel cherished.

3.

If he’s got your back, that’s a sure sign you have a solid foundation for a strong relationship. His support helps you feel safe and bolsters your confidence during challenging times.

4. A man who keeps his word is a man you can count on and trust. Think long and hard before you dump a guy who is genuinely trustworthy.

5. If he encourages you to be your best self (intelligent, light-hearted, etc.), that has tremendous value and means he is good for your self-esteem … and your soul.

6. While you have your own interests, this guy introduces you to a world of wonderful new things. He shares his knowledge happily (without patronizing you), and this is a great quality.

7. That ease you feel with him? That’s called “acceptance.” When you feel accepted, you know deep down that he loves you just the way you are. True love blossoms best in a “no judgment” zone.

8. The two of you have such a good time together. You could have fun being out and social, engaging in an activity, or doing absolutely nothing at all. Life is challenging, so a partner who lifts your spirts and helps you lighten up is a definite keeper.

9.

Issues crop up in even the best relationships. That’s why his willingness to talk things over and find a mutually agreeable solution is a very good sign.

10. He beams love when you tell him about your latest accomplishment and he happily shares your good news with others. That is love.

11. This man enhances your life and you feel your world is so much better with him in it. His presence feels enlivening, not smothering. That’s a surefire signal he’s good for you.

12. Everyone you introduce him to sees what you see–a truly good man who cares about you. It’s hard not to adore a man who lights you up inside. When the people who know and love you best give your man a solid thumbs up, that’s a guy worth keeping around.

5 Things Couple Should Avoid In Their Relationship

Thursday, April 30, 2015

Happy couple

You are in a relationship with your partner and loves each other then there are things that you must avoid in your relationship to keep it strengthen. It’s pertinent to mention that life is full of surprises, nothing lasts forever. Good times comes and worst goes but it’s only YOU who decides how to spend it either by crying or by staying happy with whatever you have in life. If you support your partner in his worst then definitely he would be going to stay with you in rest of your life. I realized in my life that the couples who stay together in their hard times are the real lovers, because only TIME and CIRCUMSATNCES tells how much one is true to other. I have something to share with you, things that a couple should avoid in a relationship.

1.Avoid telling lies
It is commonly observed that people lies in a relationship to impress their partner. If you are one of them then STOP telling lies. These lies don’t make your relationship stronger instead they will create problems in future. Tell the truth whatever the circumstances are, and remember if your partner values your truth and stays with you then he is the right person and if he/she doesn’t do this then let them go. They are not the right ones for you.

2.Stop complaining every time
People, who cry every time on little problems, complain about the things that they have in life; worries about the things that are not in their control, are the kind of people who make their lives tough. Who always find the negativities and complains others for their problems, they cannot stay happy in a relationship because no one like crying people, mostly people like happy and optimistic partner. Do share your sorrows and problems with your partner but stop crying every time. Everyone in life has problems but this doesn’t mean that you cry all the time. Stay happy and keep happy each other. Life is beautiful, if you find it difficult look at those who are in the lower half and doesn’t have even shoes. This will help you in staying happy and feeling blessed.

3.avoid not to Pay attention to your partner
Love is all about care and understanding, when you are together, pay your attention to your partner, listen carefully what they say and respond them attentively. Care about each other, remember the birthdays and other important events linked to them, believe me, these little act of kindness can make your relationship beautiful and healthy.

4. dont avoid to Appreciate each other
If you love someone, appreciate them; appreciate their efforts that they do just to make you feel happy. Tell them and realize them by your acts that how much you love them. It’s a daily job to tell them that you are precious and your presence in their lives is a blessing. Don’t think that you have told them how much you love them and now you are at that stage where you know each other enough and you don’t need to tell them that you love each other. If you do so, STOP doing it. It’s the death of your relationship.

5.Don’t FIGHT in front of public/friends
If your partner has some weaknesses, you have some arguments on some issues or need to solve an issue then please avoid discussing them in front of public/friends. Solve it at home; don’t discuss it at any public place. These is something personal but always remember that these arguments should be in limits, you should kept in mind that how much you love each other. Don’t say something that hurt your partner.

5 Things You Should Tell Your Boyfriend Everyday

Thursday, April 30, 2015

blackcouplehugging

In strong relationships you understand the silence of your partner, the reasons of their happiness, things that make them feel good. At that stage you don’t need to say a lot to them. Just a sweet smile says so many things. But don’t you think sometimes you need appreciation, you really want to hear that how much love your partner does. Yes! We want to hear that how much our loved ones love us. Its human nature that they want to know the level of love their partner holds in their heart. So don’t be late, sometimes words do that smile cant. Here are few things that you should tell your partner every day.

5. You are precious
Tell your partner that how precious you are, you have made his/her life worth living. You have added color to their life. These things seem simple but believe me you can feel the magic of these words when you are depressed, you feel life is difficult for you, then such words beautifully shows its effects.

4.You are Beautiful
When a man calls his lady beautiful then he talks about his heart. Tell your partner that they have a beautiful heart. A heart that cares for you, that breathes for you. Sometimes physical admiration is not enough to make your partner feel good. As it is observed that you will find so many beautiful faces in the world but not the beautiful heart. If you have found the person with a beautiful heart do value them.

3.Appreciate them on their ideas
When you admire someone on their ideas, it shows that you take interest in their little things, they are important for you. Once I met a couple, they were a happy couple, they used to share little things, and they appreciate the decisions taken by their partner, acknowledge the things that one can’t even imagine. This thing really inspired me. I have seen this lesser among the couples if inoculated in couples they would be happier

2.Help them to FOLLOW their dreams
Dreams keeps you awake, they are the only thing that forced you to achieve them. If your partner has some dream that need your support then do support them, love their dreams as your own. This will make them feel that how much you care them. You will be there for them in hard times. This feeling adds so much energy in you and you feel that your dream has got wings. Try it you will feel better.

1.Trust and Respect them
Again, trust and respect the most powerful tools in the world that keep your partner around you. Trust them and let them do whatever they want to do, let them go wherever they want to go. If they are true to you they will never ever betray you. Trust and respect the most precious feeling that you give to others. If you love your partner trust them, respect them. It will strengthen your relationship

Singles: 4 Things You Must Do “Personally” Before Saying I Do!

Thursday, April 30, 2015

Man-pursuing-woman-300x300

Marriage is a beautiful thing when done right. Do some prep work before you say, “I do.” It will set a good foundation on which to build a strong satisfying married. It definitely takes time and energy but its well worth it. Your strong foundation going into married will be invaluable.

Here are 4 great points for Marriage Preparation:

1. Release the baggage accumulated through the years.
If you’re not any good for yourself, you won’t be good for anyone else. When you carry around the heavy weight of baggage, when a partner comes along you are asking them to carry your baggage with you. Now, they may be willing to help you unpack the heavy bags. Yet, how much better would it be if there were no bags of discontent, anger, jealously, and hurt to unpack because they have already been dealt with.

2. Become separate, unique, and whole all by yourself.
Dig deep to discover your purpose. Dig deep to rest in your uniqueness. Replace the garbage talk that says you are not enough and you need someone to complete you. You are enough. A mate comes along and you share your lives together. Two complete people who create something magnificent together.

3. Read every good book you can find on having a prosperous marriage.
Authors like Dr. Myles Munroe, Willard Harley, Gary Smalley, and of course Black and Marriage with Kids have awesome marriage enrichment books. Reading now allows you to begin storing tools in your marriage toolbox. It is beneficial to have some tools to work with before you get married.
Recognize and receive the gift God has for you. If he or she is not your gift keep it moving. People are not to be messed over or tried out.

4. Receive the gift God presents to you. A gift is a beautiful thing.
However, a gift does you no good if you don’t receive it. Know what your gift is supposed to look like, so you will recognize it when it arrives. For example: if you have been waiting on a blue 10 speed bike and a yellow 3 speed with a granny basket on the front shows up, you know that 3 speed is not your bike. It’s not your gift to accept, so don’t mess over it or try it out.

South African women narrate discrimination they face for marrying Nigerian men

Thursday, April 30, 2015

South African women married to Nigerian men have narrated the discrimination they face for marrying men outside their country. Seeing the disaffection their kinsmen show them after finding love in the hands of Nigerian men, the women decided to form an association, the United Nigerian Wives in South Africa (UNWISA) club about two years ago where they give support and succor to each other.

42 year old Lindwela Uche who serves as the chairwoman of the group told AFP that they saw the xenophobic attacks coming and alerted their husbands but they did not take their warning seriously "We saw this thing coming and that’s why we formed this association. If only they (the authorities) had listened to us… they would have known that there’s a fire burning slowly and they would have seen how to tackle it.”she said

One of the members of the association,“Lufunu Orji who is married to a Nigerian resource consultant, Ogbonnaya Orji, says being married to a foreigner is very challenging

"Being married to a foreigner is very challenging. You often spend your time defending yourself and then you defend your foreign husband for being himself. Just before I got wed to my husband, I lost two very best friends of mine. They thought I was out of my mind" she said
Another member of the group who gave her name as Uche, said her 13-year-old daughter returned from school a while ago, complaining that her teacher had told her “not to bring that Nigerian mentality here” after she and classmates were noisy in class.

“We need to be protected, we need our children to be protected… and our husbands to be treated with dignity,” Uche said
37 year old Thelma Okoro, says the attitude towards them “are negative everywhere we go,”. According to her, wearing traditional Nigerian dress on the street can attract bad comments. She spoke of how her eight-year-old daughter gets mocked by schoolmates over her name “Ngozi” which means “blessing” in Igbo but literally translates to “danger” in Zulu.

Pakistan drops case against former CIA station chief

Jonathan Bank and agency's former acting general counsel were charged in relation to a deadly drone strike in 2009.

Pakistani police have dropped a case that was recently registered against a former CIA station chief and a former agency lawyer over a 2009 drone strike that killed two people.
Police officer Mohammad Nawaz told the AP news agency on Thursday that the case against former acting general counsel John A. Rizzo and ex-station chief Jonathan Bank had been dropped because the drone attack did not happen in the jurisdiction of the Islamabad police station where the case had been registered.
Bank's cover was blown in 2010 when a Pakistani man threatened to sue the CIA over the deaths of his 18-year-old son and his brother in a purported drone strike in a Pakistani tribal region. A third man was also killed in the attack.
A judge had ordered criminal charges to be filed against the pair earlier in April.
Kareem Khan, whose relatives died in the attack on New Year's Eve in 2009, had demanded $500m in damages, accusing the CIA of targeting civilians.
A number of media outlets reported the strike near Mir Ali in North Waziristan at the time. Pakistani intelligence officials said then that the men belonged to an armed group, but offered no proof.
The case resulted in angry protests against the CIA, calling for Bank's expulsion from the country. The CIA recalled Bank in December 2010.
Bank later worked on the CIA's Iran operations team, and the Pentagon's intelligence arm.

Meet Bizzyaski, celebrity Tattooist/beautician, Invents Pinklip Magic

Thursday, April 30, 2015

Bisola Ojikutu (pictured above), popularly known as Bizzyaski among Nigerian celebrities and other top clients, who have enjoyed his beauty services and products over the years, is a multiple award-winning, internationally certified celebrity beautician from one of California's most popular beauty academies.

This young dude, who is undeniably a genius in the game is the CEO of Bizzyaski Studios, Africa's most celebrated tattoo studios.

Aside being a professional when it comes to Pink lip, piercing, tattoo removal, stretchmark removal, teeth whitening, permanent eyebrow, boobs and hips enlargement, sex toys marketing and jersey customising; Bizzyaski is the most sought after tattoo artist in Nigeria having crested tattoos for many top celebrities like Iyanya, Charly Boy, Terry G, Side 1, Danny Young, AY.Com, Adol and others. He even crested the breast tattoo of popular sultry Yoruba actress Iyabo Ojo, including that of Big Brother Africa winner, Karen Igho.

Need one mention more of his celebrity clients? From Lil' Kesh, to Kiss Daniel and Trigga Kess, Cynthia morgan to Eva and the Afolayans, Bizzyaski's celebrity clients are endless.

Bizzyaski also has among his clientèle a long list of top politicians and socialites.

Having been examined to be the best in the game, Bizzyaski Studios and Bizzyaski himself was prominently featured in the Airtel Padi Club 10 TV Commercials and Billboards. Bizzyaski also gave free temporary 'Don't Break Da Beat' tattoo to guests having been contracted by Nokia for the last Nokia 'Don't Break Da Beat' Championship.

Now, are you worried about your unattractive lip(usually the lower lip or both) or are you a smoker with black thick lip? What if there is a balm out there that you can just apply to your lip and it becomes naturally pink? You'll be thankful for reading this info, because there is this new interesting product called Pinklip Magic® balm, which can give anyone a soft, rosy, healthy, pretty and pinky lip in Just 7 Days!

Pinklip Magic® is fortified with all the herbal nutrients your lips need to stay healthy, soft and pink without the use of harsh chemicals found in many of today's lip products.

A lot of people permanently tattoo their lips pink through a shading process just to have a pink lip, but this is very dangerous and often lead to swollen lips or other irritation, this balm is a novel creation from Bizzyaski.

From time immemorial, a pink lip has always been an 'Attraction Factor' but many give up because they don't know how or where to get it. When it comes to attraction, a little thing can mean so much and your pink lip can be that 'Thing'. Having a pink lip increases your social desirability and that's why you often hear words like 'beautiful', 'handsome', 'sex', 'cute', and/or cute smile used to qualify someone with a pink lip. Other benefits of having a pink lip include increased confidence, attraction and attention from the opposite sex. Pink lips basically suggest kissability, and can simply get you a date.

Bizzyaski disclosed that PINKLIP MAGIC® used to be a service he provided exclusively to only Nigerian celebs, top politicians and socialites in the past, but he is now making it available to the public at a very affordable rate.

"It took me 2years to completely research this solution, because when clients come to me for pink lips services, it took me a long process of shading on the lips to help them achieve this. Although, at Bizzyaski studios we've been able to achieve this result at zero risk level due to the high international standard practice we adhere to. But it's been a different case for most other studios in the country offering similar service as their clients end up with swollen lips because the texture of the lips is different from that of the skin, therefore it doesn't absorb ink.

When the demand for my one-on-one pink lips service was too overwhelming, that was when i decided to research a product that i can formulate that will give the same solution to clients all over, without necessarily meeting me one-on-one. The changing face of Tahrir Square

Thursday, April 30, 2015

At the symbolic centre of the Arab uprisings, recent infrastructural changes reflect shifting power dynamics.

The state's encroachment upon Tahrir Square seems to herald a new era in Egyptian street politics, writes Mousa [Getty]

To the everyday passerby, the outward changes in Tahrir Square may be too gradual to notice. Despite its role in the physical and social formation of a city, its infrastructure often carries a quality of invisibility, unseen barring some momentary disruption in its existence.
At the symbolic centre of the Arab uprisings, where the relationship between physical space and politics is acute, recent infrastructural changes reflect shifting power dynamics.
On the eve of the 2011 uprisings, Tahrir Square stood as a hodgepodge of sites. The American University of Cairo, a converted Ottoman palace, had recently moved classes to a new desert complex. The Mogamma administrative governmental building was buzzing with people attending to bureaucratic needs. The Arab League headquarters stood out as a monument to past policy dreams.

The National Museum greeted tourists with its extensive stock of Pharaonic artefacts. A statue and mosque in the name of Omar Makram, who resisted Napoleon's 18th century invasion of Egypt, led onto Qasr al-Nil bridge, flanked by stone lions, the work of 19th century French artistry. Street vendors overtook the sidewalks and poured into the streets, where people emerged from the metro or descended from buses.

These streets and sites took on new meanings as diverse actors occupied them in 2011, and beyond. Qasr al-Nil bridge became a point of confrontation, where a front line of protesters, guarding the square, waged hours-long battles against the water cannons and tear gas of state forces.
The mosque served as a makeshift hospital; its loudspeakers, typically used to call for prayers, used to call for medical help.
Street battles
The headquarters of Hosni Mubarak's National Democratic Party was lit ablaze. The National Museum became a site of torture. The entrance to the Arab League became an extension of the Syrian uprising, where refugees pitched an elaborate protest tent. The American University of Cairo looked on to the bloodiest street battles of the uprising, and later its exterior walls became the backdrop for elaborate graffiti that galvanised further action.
The first noticeable change is emptiness: the significantly lower traffic, automobile and people, that occupies or crosses through the space.

Modes of transportation became a strategic tool for manoeuvring crowds. The Mogamma stood as testament to the crowds' ability to shut down state operations. The concrete pavement blocks were torn apart by protesters, the pieces launched at state forces that encroached upon their claimed space. The street vendors, often themselves participants in the movement, became important providers of sustenance, and of Egypt-themed paraphernalia.
Today, the state is the dominant actor in the Square. Perhaps the first noticeable change is emptiness: the significantly lower traffic, automobile and people, that occupies or crosses through the space. The cause is apparent: Strictly enforced regulations prevent street vendors from crowding the newly minted sidewalks, and an underground mega-garage has unclogged downtown movement. The traffic police, a presence largely unseen since the Mubarak era, enforce movement regulations.
In the centre of the square, a vandalised state monument to killed protesters has been removed, and replaced by a towering flagpole, with a simple concrete base etched with detached and meaningless Pharaonic and Arabic letters.
The Nile Ritz, for years "under construction", has been unveiled to reveal a facade with multicoloured Pharaonic letters and imagery. The National Democratic Party headquarters, left blackened with smoke since it was lit afire in 2011, is now covered with a vast banner that reads: Investment is the key to prosperity in Egypt. The image on the banner is a stream of water in the midst of desert, presumably a reference to the new Suez project, shaped in the Pharaonic symbol for the "key of life".
New era of 'progress'
These visuals are part of a wider government discourse that seeks to end the "instability" of the past and enter a new era of "progress". The government presents itself as technocratic, as focused on the collective goals of stability, economic growth and prosperity. These projects - the painting, the sidewalks, the mega-garage and clearing of traffic - echo historical modernisation efforts through which the state presents itself as an "organising" force.

References to a Pharaonic past have, since the colonial era, been drawn upon in political discourse as an indication of objective, undisputable achievement.
The thousands of years that separate contemporary Egypt from the Pharaohs makes this discourse well suited for claims of political detachment and neutrality.
Power configures space to materially manipulate movement, and to aesthetically and visually assert itself. Although the uprising goes far beyond its spatial dimension, streets are ultimately the physical site of confrontation and an important means of visualising power dynamics.
The state's encroachment upon Tahrir Square seems to herald a new era in Egyptian street politics. But infrastructure should never be considered in isolation; to some, these visuals are only an ephemeral facade. As I stopped to ponder on the changes in Tahrir, a cafe vendor stopped to reflect with me.
"I saw blood spill on these streets," he said. "The new pavement cannot erase that."

Jaharriyeh refugee camp, Lebanon - The Jaharriyeh refugee camp in El Marj sits in a picturesque part of Lebanon's Bekaa valley; snowcapped mountains soar above the distant horizon, while the sound of children at play is punctuated by the noise of helicopters.
Inside the camp, the rattle of plastic sheets used as roofing provides a constant background soundtrack. But here in Lebanon, refugees are forced to pay ever-increasing rents to stay in the camp,  resident Jihad Masarber said.
"Rent started at $200 a year. Then it was $30 a month, then $40," he told Al Jazeera. "Now it's $50 a month, but that's just to rent the spot. We have to pay at least $50, maybe even $75 for power."
Mustafa, Jihad's brother, chimed in: "Then there's water - that's around $40 per month."

Xenophobic Attacks Should Challenge Govt. To Make The Country Better

April 30, 2015

Former Provost Marshal of the Nigerian Army, Brig. General Idada Ikpomnwen, yesterday, tasked the Nigerian government on making the country habitable, rather than rather than blame the South African government for xenophobic attacks on foreigners.

He argued that if the country was a great place to live, Nigerians would not seek greener pastures anywhere else in the world.
“We must begin to think of how to create jobs, make good use of our resources and make this nation great. That is the challenge before the Federal Government and not the action of South Africans,” he said.
Idada, however, berated South Africans over the attacks gainst their African brothers.

Justin Bieber got in hot water yesterday while in Rome to shoot "Zoolander 2. He is wanted in Argentina in connection to not showing up to face charges that he allegedly got his bodyguards to beat up an Argentine photographer in 2013 in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Several police officers were rumored to have showed up outside his HOTEL IN ROME, fortunately for him, no arrest was made. Bieber is said to be on an Interpol list because of the outstanding warrant in Argentina in 2013.

Justin had to go through secondary search at Customs when he flew into Italy because Argentina had contacted Interpol and put him on the list.

As for the officers outside the HOTEL it was discovered that they were consulting with Justin's security team on crowd control.

Charlie Hebdo's Luz to stop drawing Muhammad cartoons

29 Apr 2015

Cartoonist Luz, who drew front page of Charlie Hebdo after attacks, says he is "tired" of drawing Prophet Muhammad.
Yemen's al-Qaeda branch claimed responsibility for the attack when two masked gunmen killed 12 people in Paris [Reuters]

Charlie Hebdo's French cartoonist Luz, who drew the cover picture of the Prophet Muhammad after the deadly attack on the satirical weekly in January, has said he will no longer draw the prophet.
"He no longer interests me," Luz told Les Inrockuptibles in an interview published on its website on Wednesday.'Double standard of freedom of expression'
"I've got tired of it, just as I got tired of drawing Sarkozy. I'm not going to spend my life drawing them."
Yemen's al-Qaeda branch claimed responsibility for the attack when two masked gunmen killed 12 people at the office of the weekly magazine in Paris, along with two police officers.
Charlie Hebdo had angered the group by publishing cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad, which is widely considered an insult to Islam.
For some Muslims, depicting the prophet is blasphemous, but Charlie Hebdo's first edition after the attack carried on its cover Luz's cartoon of a tearful Muhammad holding a "Je suis Charlie" ["I am Charlie"] sign under the words "All is forgiven".
In an outpouring of solidarity across France, Charlie Hebdo sold several million copies rather than its usual circulation of 60,000.
