Pietermaritzburg – Two people were killed and 24 injured when a bus rolled near Pietermaritzburg early on Wednesday morning, paramedics said.
The bodies of a man and woman were found on the scene, on the R56 in Richmond, ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring said in a statement.
The injuries ranged from minor to critical. Two of the critically injured were trapped in the bus and a third underneath it.
“Rescue services had to use the jaws-of-life equipment to free the patients in an hour-long rescue operation.”
Netcare 911 spokesperson Chris Botha said the bus swerved across the road and overturned, flinging people out, near the Andersons service station.
The cause of the accident was not yet known.
